A round of heavy rain wreaked havoc in the northern part of New Jersey yesterday and now, residents are bracing for more storms that could bring additional flooding to the state.

In Hawthorne, firefighters responded to more than 20 calls for service throughout town as heavy rain caused roads to flood and cars to become stranded. First responders conducted a total of 17 water rescues throughout the borough, the fire department said in a social media post.

"Thank you to our members for operating in these challenging conditions, the Hawthorne Ambulance Corps for standing by for evaluation of our members and parties removed from the water, and to Wyckoff Fire Dept for responding with their high-water rescue vehicle," firefighters said in the post.

Some roads, such as Goffle Road, were hit especially hard, with water rushing through the streets and turning residential roads into rivers. There was also flooding in Glen Rock and storm damage in Wyckoff, where high winds pulled down power lines.

News 12 meteorologists say flash flooding will be a problem again this afternoon as storms push across the state, bringing rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour in some spots. The worst rain is expected to impact northern New Jersey, and could be accompanied by damaging wind.
