There’s been another deadly boat crash along Barnegat Bay. Saturday night’s incident marks the third time since Memorial Day that a boat has crashed into a channel marker.
Four people, including two children, died in those incidents.
The New Jersey State Police are trying to determine exactly why a 32-foot Boston Whaler, with five adults on board, crashed into a Barnegat Bay channel marker on Saturday night just before 11 p.m.
State police say 26-year-old Michael Bereheiko, from Green Brook, did not survive the crash.
Three others on board were taken to the hospital with injuries.
Police say that after the boat crashed into the channel marker, Kevin Wells, the person driving the boat, was able to continue on and get the boat to a dock along Silver Lagoon Drive and receive help.
Police have not offered the circumstances of the crash, although it was a busy weekend on the bay as it was annual "FloatShoalla" weekend, when boaters head out to party near Tices Shoal along Barnegat Bay.
A 7-year-old and a 9-year-old died from a crash on July 19 while boating with their grandparents. On Memorial Day, a man died when the boat he was on also hit a channel marker.
