CVS Pharmacy is now filling common prescription medications for dogs and cats at its roughly 9,000 stores nationwide.

The new service lets pet owners fill veterinarian-prescribed medications for select pet-only treatments, including antibiotics, allergy medications, flea and tick control products, insulin and pain relievers, at local CVS Pharmacy locations. CVS says eligible pet prescriptions can use many of the same services as human prescriptions, including automatic refills and prescription syncing, and some medications may be available for delivery.

Pet owners can also add pets to their CVS.com profile and manage eligible prescriptions through the CVS Health app, with electronic prescription capabilities expected in the coming months. In addition to prescriptions, CVS stores sell pet care items such as food, grooming supplies, flea and tick treatments, dental products, cat litter and training pads.

CVS says the expansion is meant to improve access to veterinary medications while giving customers one more way to manage their own and their pets’ health care needs.
