Firefighters in Jersey City braved the cold temperatures to bring a fire under control on Pacific Avenue just off Communipaw Avenue Wednesday morning.
Two businesses - a pizzeria and cigar shop - and three apartments may have been affected, if not destroyed. This fire may have included a roof collapse.
The Red Cross confirms that it is helping a family of three - two adults, one child and a dog.
A firefighter suffered minor injuries by slipping on ice, officials said.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
