A man recently discharged from the hospital is facing multiple charges for allegedly stealing two vehicles and crashing them in Monmouth County.
The prosecutor says 33-year-old Justin Chacon is facing three counts of carjacking, a resisting arrest charge and several other charges for the incident that happened in Holmdel Wednesday morning.
Authorities say that Chacon was released from Bayshore Medical Center around 5:45 a.m. and subsequently stole a commercial delivery van that was left in the hospital parking lot.
Chacon then allegedly crashed that van on Route 35. Police says a good Samaritan tried to help but that Chacon then stole that person’s SUV
Chacon and crashed it a few miles away while still on Route 35.
Police say Chacon exited the SUV, brandished a pair of wire cutters and tried to get into a pair of cars on the highway but was rebuffed by the drivers of each car.
Police eventually found Chacon walking in traffic. Authorities say he was ordered to drop the wire cutters – an order he allegedly refused. A Taser was used on Chacon before he was shot by a police officer.
Chacon was taken to the hospital and is now in stable condition.
