Public Works employees in the city of Paterson are working hard to eliminate ice buildup at Sherman and Union avenues after water from firefighters contain flames at an abandoned school.
Firefighters responded to the old St. Mary's High School on Sherman Avenue overnight. They quickly brought the flames under control and found nobody inside.
The water used, however, ran down Sherman Avenue and stopped at Union Avenue and the bitter conditions led to treacherous ice buildup.
Public Works employees quickly came to the rescue to assist those behind the wheel and those on foot, making their Thursday morning commute safe.
No word on what started the fire at the abandoned high school.
