A fire at a nursing home in Holmdel temporarily forced residents to evacuate.
The fire was reported just before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday on the roof of the Arnold Walter Nursing Home on Laurel Avenue. Officials say that the smoke from the fire was contained to one wing of the facility.
The evacuated residents were relocated to a different part of the facility and were not seriously injured. One person was treated on the scene as a precaution but refused further medical treatment.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials say it appears to have been caused by a chemical being used for repairs that ignited when it came into contact with metal flashing that was exposed to extreme heat.
