State forest fire crews continue to battle a wildfire in Morris County.
The New Jersey Forest Fire Service says that the fire in Rockaway Township is 85% contained and has impacted 77 acres of land.
Crews have been fighting the fire since Saturday. Officials say that because New Jersey has not seen any rain in 23 days, the ground is without any moisture.
“Probably six inches down, completely dry. So, with that the fire gets into the ground, makes it a lot harder for us,” says fire official Todd Sacchiero.
Falling leaves add to the dry fuels. Officials say the winds will become a concern as they are expected to pick up Wednesday into Thursday.
No injuries have been reported and no evacuation orders are in effect.
