Code Blue went into effect in several parts of the state Saturday because of dangerously cold temperatures.
Although it has been a mild winter, there have been several days of extremely cold temperatures. Newark is one of those cities with emergency shelters open that will try to ensure its most vulnerable populations stay safe this weekend.
Temperatures are expected to dip into the low-20s overnight before warming up on Sunday.
Several of the area shelters News 12 New Jersey visited have already said their beds are full. New Jersey residents are encouraged to call 211 if they can to get information for a shelter or warming center.
