Veterans at the American Legion Post 803 tell News 12 they hope this year, the nation's 250th birthday, to add younger members and continue sprucing up the old building and its property.

The post is located on Main Road in Southold and has 169 members.

The post provides support to veterans, scholarships to local students and a place to gather for those who have served our nation.

The property was recently spruced up, with the addition of a bocce ball court, picnic tables and a patio area.

Veterans at Post 803 say they would like to get the parking lot fixed - it had a rough winter - and the outside of the building painted.

They also want to grow membership so the younger veterans can carry on the torch.
