A great white shark was accidentally hooked by a party of
sport
fishermen over the weekend off the coast of Seaside Heights.
The boat was about a mile off the coast.
The shark measured in at about 7 feet long, likely
amounting to a young shark.
Once the shark was hooked, it charged the boat and took about 20 minutes
for the fishermen to get it to the side of the boat.
The fishermen released the
shark back into the ocean. The shark swam off quickly under its own power.
White sharks are federally
protected species and must be released if caught by accident. Fishermen are not
permitted to target them.
