A Passaic County hair salon donated all its profits Wednesday to help out a family in need.
Salon Amici in Woodland Park donated all of its profits Wednesday to the family of Little Falls resident Russell Domicoli who suffered a stroke in September that left him unable to move. It is a rare neurological disorder. At first, all he could move were his eyes.
Domicoli, 48, has now worked his way to nodding and moving a foot and some fingers. He is a chef and was the caretaker for his wife who recently had a double mastectomy, as well as their three children.
After Domicoli fell ill, the community rallied behind his family.
"All I kept thinking was - those children. And I just wanted to do something to help,” says Salon Amici owner Lina Maffei.
Those children are 13-year-old twins Nicholas and Christian and 17-year-old Russell Jr.
"I cried instantly and right after that we had to tell my other brothers and they're both younger than me so I had to try and cope with it as quickly as I can,” said Russell Jr.
But he is still just a teenager who wants his best friend and father back.
"It hurts you know. It sucks. because no one wants to see your dad like that. At all,” he says.
Domicoli wife Sharon says that she is grateful for all of the help.
"Woodland Park is a very small town. We're a really tight-knit community. Everybody knows everybody and the generosity of people has been overwhelming."
A GoFundMe page for the family has raised more than $38,000 as of Wednesday evening.
