Elizabeth’s Elmora Troopers win first game of Little League World Series
Elizabeth’s Elmora Troopers defeated the team from Oregon to win their first game of the Little League World Series.
The Troopers win their game 6 – 2 Friday evening.
Earlier in the day a large group of relatives, friends and fans of the team boarded buses for South Williamsport, Pennsylvania to root the team on.
The group says that they are proud of the team and proud of the city of Elizabeth.
“I think it's amazing. I think we finally put our city on the map. And it's just exciting to see at such a young age so many kids doing so well. And doing such a big milestone,” said one fan.
The 13-member team of 12-year-olds from Elizabeth clinched the Mid-Atlantic region championship earlier this month to qualify for the tournament. Only a handful of teams from the Garden State have qualified for the Little League World Series in the past.
The team will play their next game Sunday against Hawaii.
