Route 1 closed following fiery multicar crash in North Brunswick

A fiery multivehicle crash sent one person to the hospital with significant injuries and forced a major closure of Route 1 early Saturday morning in North Brunswick.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the intersection of Route 1 and Finnegans Lane following reports of a severe collision. Upon arrival, first responders found two vehicles fully engulfed in flames.
Police officers on scene extricated an unconscious driver from one of the burning vehicles. The victim, who suffered significant injury and trauma, was treated at the scene by emergency medical services before being transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
The South Brunswick Police Department, local fire departments, EMS, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation all responded to manage the active emergency operations.
As a result of the ongoing investigation and cleanup efforts, Route 1 remains closed in both directions near the intersection:
Southbound traffic is being diverted onto Thomas Avenue.
Northbound traffic is being diverted onto Finnegans Lane.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area and expect significant delays while the investigation continues.
