A water main break has forced the closure of all lanes on Route 82 (Morris Avenue) in Union Township, affecting traffic in both directions near the approach to the Garden State Parkway and Route 22.

Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid delays. Those travelling west on Route 82 are being diverted into the Lowe's shopping center parking lot where they can either turn around or make their way to Route 22.

American Water says customers in Union and Elizabeth may experience discolored or cloudy water, or reduced water pressure during the repair.

They estimate repairs will be completed today.
