Truckers across the state and country protested the rising cost of diesel fuel by slowing down and pulling off the road Monday.
Independent truckers organized a grass-roots strike to call attention to an increasing expenditure that is putting many businesses at risk. Protestors attempted to cause major traffic concerns by driving between 20 and 30 mph on major highways like the New Jersey Turnpike. Others pulled off the road for rest stop rallies.
More than 150 truckers showed up at the Vince Lombardi rest stop in Ridgefield.
"We are a community," says Danny Martinez, one Ridgefield protestor. "All we want to do is work. It's not fair that Congress is watching us die."
According to Martinez, it now costs at least $400 to fill up one gas tank on his rig.
