One person was killed when a fire engulfed an apartment unit in Mercer County Thursday morning.

The fire broke out just before 7 a.m. at an apartment in the Brookside Gardens complex on Bedford Avenue in Hamilton Township. Multiple township firefighters responded to the scene.

Officials said one person died as a result of the fire.

“I can confirm that an individual was pulled from the fire this morning and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Bianca Jerez, a township spokesperson, told News 12.

The victim’s identity has not been released. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
