Residents on University Avenue in Highbridge are raising concerns about growing trash piles and rodent infestations.
Locals report that the garbage, including mattresses, tires and car seats, are littering the streets and creating an eyesore.

The Olnick Organization, which owns several empty lots on the block, acknowledges the issue and says they regularly clean up the sites. However, some say nearby construction by Samaritan Daytop Village is pushing rats into residential areas.
“The vibrations from the construction are pushing vermin into apartment buildings,” said Assemblymember Landon Dais.
Samaritan Daytop Village says it is adding 50 more rat traps to address the problem.
