The borough of Metuchen held a celebration to celebrate the new year and the debut of an American Girl doll from the town.
The doll, named Kavi Sharma, is also the first South Asian American “Girl of the Year.”
Dawn Mackey, of the Metuchen Downtown Alliance, says this is an important event for New Jersey and for the town. She says this is particularly important because Metuchen has a large Indian American population.
The New Year’s Eve party was held at the Metuchen Town Plaza. The event paid homage to the doll with Bollywood dancers, drummers and bongo dancing.
