The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning for parts of Monmouth County as a powerful storm moved through the area.
The storm sliced a tree right through a home around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The family who lives in the house had moved in just two days ago. Residents of Green Grove Court in the Lincroft section of Middletown say that the warning came about 10 minutes after the worst of the weather had already passed by.
“It looked weird, dark, almost yellowish. By the time we got inside, it sounded funny,” says neighbor Ben Harris. “I got everyone in the basement. My wife was the last one down. She saw some trees coming down. She was panicked and then we heard everything stop. Everything you read about tornadoes...That’s what it sounded like to me.”
Weather officials will determine if a tornado actually touched down in the area.
The Middletown police chief says that Wednesday morning’s storm did more damage in a few seconds than Tropical Storm Isaias did when it blew through the area two weeks ago.
