The undead will take over Asbury Park for several hours on Saturday as the city welcomes the return of the annual Zombie Walk.
Now in its 16th year, the event kicks off the Halloween season in Asbury Park. The Zombie Walk is famed for breaking the Guinness World Record for having the "world's largest gathering of zombies" in both 2010 and 2013.
The zombie gathering begins at 11 a.m. on the boardwalk, near the 4th Avenue green space. Participants can wear their own creepy costumes or get a "zombie makeover" by a professional makeup artist for a fee. Creativity is key for those who are hoping to return to the grave with a "Best Zombie" distinction by one of the judges who will be wandering around among the undead, looking for the best costumes among the adults, children, couples and groups that dressed up.
When the clock strikes 4 p.m., the official zombie invasion begins. The Zombie Walk will begin moving up the boardwalk, heading from Convention Hall towards the Casino, where it will turn onto Cookman Avenue and head into the Downtown area. At 6 p.m., zombies will gather at Johnny Macs House of Spirits on Main Street where the winners of the costume contest will take place.
