The mayor of Linden announced an effort to help families in need as the school district implements a new uniform policy.
The city is doing a donation drive to raise money to purchase uniform pants for families that cannot afford them.
“Many of you have reached out asking if there is anything we can do to assist families in need with uniform pants, since the school district has already provided shirts,” Mayor Derek Armstead wrote on Facebook. “In response, I asked a few stakeholders to join me in organizing a Uniform Pants Drive. Please share the flyer below with your networks. The more money we raise, the more families we will be able to support.”
As News 12 has previously reported, some parents in Linden are not happy with the district’s new policy, citing the cost. One parent told News 12 that the uniforms would cost her $330 per child.
Anyone interested in donating can email the mayor at darmstead@linden-nj.gov or mayorarmstead@gmail.com or by calling 908-474-8493.
The first day of school in Linden is on Wednesday.
