The boil water advisory has officially been lifted for residents of Haledon, North Haledon, Prospect Park and Paterson after final testing confirmed the drinking water is safe.
The advisory was first issued following a water main break near Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson early last month. While water service was restored weeks ago, flushing and testing continued until Tuesday.
With school starting this week, officials say the timing is critical.

Residents and businesses who lost money during the advisory may be eligible for reimbursement. North Haledon Mayor Randy George says local lawmakers have written to the governor requesting funds to help cover those losses.
A small portion of Paterson is still under a boil water advisory.
