Boating can be a great way to experience the outdoors with family and friends, but it also comes with a little risk.
Accidental man overboard's or just getting separated from the boat can happen. Mercury Marine hopes to reduce that with its 1st Mate Marine Safety & Security System.
The wireless devices are given to each passenger and the captain, then are electronically tethered to the boat. If the captain falls overboard, or gets about 30 feet from the boat, the 1st Mate computer kills the engines, records the GPS location, sends an alert to the 1st Mate app and any emergency contacts.
If a passenger falls overboard, the system geolocates the fob, then alerts the captain so they can be found quickly.
