An investigation is underway after antisemitic graffiti was discovered at a Long Island Rail Road station in Nassau County.

The Village of Lawrence responded after a swastika was found Wednesday at the Inwood train station, specifically within the portion located in Lawrence.

Mayor Samuel Nahmias tells News 12 the symbol of hate was etched into a window.

As News 12 has reported, an uptick in incidents of this nature are the reason the village recently announced plans to install about 160 surveillance cameras throughout the community.

"If something like this happens again, and unfortunately these things will happen again, then we have the tools in place to track down these perpetrators," Nahmias said.

The cameras would be connected to the Nassau police command center and monitored locally at village hall.

“As the mayor of a proud and prominent Jewish community—and as a Jewish mayor myself—I find this act especially despicable,” the Mayor continued.

Nassau police is working in coordination with MTA police to investigate this incident and identify those responsible, according to the village.

Anyone with information is encouraged to come forward and assist law enforcement.
