New Jersey’s summer tourism season is on the way out, and the holiday weekend visitors are on the way in.
Labor Day is considered the end of the season, and a sunny weekend is just what boardwalk businesses say they needed.
“It’s been good when the weather's been good,” said Ameya Pendse, who owns Sweet Tooth dessert shop along the boardwalk.
“It was hard,” said Aaron Hochman, who owns Unwind Records and Comics. “In the beginning, it was a lot of rain, but once it cleared up, the second half of the season, we definitely made up for it.”
News 12's meteorologists say that every June weekend this year featured cloudy skies and measurable rain. July had multiple storms. August was better, with the exception of Hurricane Erin.
Asbury's beachfront businesses will also have several upcoming events to cash in on lost business.
“In two weeks, we have Sea.Hear.Now, so that's going to bring a lot of people,” Pendse said. “We have the Zombie Walk in October, which is awesome. So, we're going to be around.”
“It's the last push at the end of the season,” Hochman said. “But it's also nice. Once a lot of people are gone, then we get the beach back for a little bit.”
