Trick-or-treating moved to Nov. 1 in Toms River due to stormy weather

Toms River usually holds its Halloween trick-or-treating a day early, on Oct. 30, because of the annual Halloween parade that takes place on Oct. 31.

Toms River kids go trick-or-treating on the day before Halloween every year, instead of the actual holiday.

This year, the date had to be moved, but kids still won't get to go door to door on the day of Halloween.

"The 31st is the parade. So, they always change trick-or-treating so that everyone can go to the parade and not miss out on trick-or-treating," Toms River resident Kristy Tuminelli said.

The township moved trick-or-treating back this year due to concerns about the weather. Now, the festivities will be on Nov. 1.

Still, Toms River has no shortage of spooky spirit to go around.

"It's a 40-foot walkthrough, and we have decorations that wrap all the way around our house. I like everything 12-foot and taller," Ryan Guerrieri, who builds a haunted house in his yard every year, said.

While many residents had to adjust their plans, for one trick-or-treater - the unique tradition makes her special day even better.

"I love Halloween, but I'm a little biased because it's my birthday, and then my 43rd birthday, I got the best gift ever..It's [my daughter's] birthday as well. So, living in Toms River is awesome because we get to celebrate twice every year," Tuminelli said.

The annual Toms River Halloween Parade will take place as scheduled on Oct. 31.
