Street outside Newark Liberty named to honor Tuskegee airman
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is honoring a local hero by naming a street outside of Newark Liberty International Airport.
The street outside of the new Terminal A will be named after Col. Lawrence Roberts, a Tuskegee airman.
Roberts was born and raised 15 minutes away from the airport in Vauxhall.
His family says that they are proud.
“That’s beyond my wildest imagination. For years and years and years to come, people will remember my dad,” says Lawrence Roberts Jr.
Col. Roberts was also a pioneer who fought for civil rights after his service in World War II.
