The PNC Arts Center COVID-19 testing facility in Holmdel reached its capacity shortly after opening Monday morning.
This is the second state-run testing site in New Jersey. Monday was its first day in operation. The first state-run site is operating at Bergen Community College in Paramus.
State officials are urging New Jersey residents to not seek testing if they are not experiencing symptoms of the coronavirus – mainly a dry cough, fever and difficulty breathing. A sign outside the PNC site read “No symptoms? No test.” Officials say that there are limited resources and testing kits.
Dr. Mark Merlin oversees the team of doctors and nurses working at the site Monday morning.
“This is a scary thing that’s going on. And it’s scary because it’s very easy to transmit COVID-19 from one person to another,” he said.
Merlin said that there is a registration form that people must fill out.

“Then they’re tested with a swab and then the information is gathered by personnel and then the test is collected and sent out for testing,” he said.
Results typically come back within a few days.
Residents who are being tested are asked to bring an ID and their insurance card. Gov. Phil Murphy has asked that fees be waived for the uninsured.
The PNC testing site will be open seven days a week starting at 8 a.m. until capacity is reached.

Registration has to be done through a doctor or health care provider. Union County says everyone needs to arrive in a car, as walk-ins will not be allowed.
