New Jersey comedian Artie Lange has announced that he will be returning to rehab to be treated for his addiction to drugs.
Lange has a history of drug abuse. He made the announcement Monday night while appearing on New Jersey 101.5 with host Steve Trevelise.
“I think I’m ready to go and do what I gotta do,” Lange said.
Lange decided to get help, in part thanks to Kevin Meara, founder of City of Angels.
News 12 New Jersey has spoken with Meara before about his nonprofit organization that helps addicts and their families cope and to find recovery assistance. Meara lost his own son to drug addiction 10 years ago.
Meara says that he believes that Lange’s public announcement will help others get the help that they need.
“With the help of professionals and his commitment, he’ll make it through and be on the circuit entertaining people,” Meara says. “But more importantly, his story is going to save some lives.”
More information about City of Angels can be found at the organization’s website.
