Cold air moves in Friday night ahead of this weekend's winter storm, with lows dipping down to the mid-20s by daybreak Saturday. A cloudy but dry daytime is on tap for Saturday, with snow showers waiting until about 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. Scattered snow showers will increase in coverage and intensity through 9 p.m. A heavy burst of snow is likely around 9 p.m., lasting through about midnight. Snowfall rates could approach 1 to 2 inches of snow per hour in that short window. With sleet and freezing rain moving in around midnight, that will cut into snow totals. With a little more mixing and icing expected, the borough will likely see around 3 inches of snow, with more across northern sections of the borough.
Heavy precipitation tapers to lighter showers after 2 a.m. and will be isolated-to-scattered through about 9 a.m. Sunday afternoon will see sunshine return before the Super Bowl. Another brief break into Monday before another storm arrives midday Tuesday.
With more cold air and a potentially even-stronger storm looming, this could produce the potential for over 6 inches of snow. A snow forecast for this storm is way too soon, and Saturday's storm track will impact Tuesday's track.
