All eyes are on a winter storm developing Saturday into Sunday.
Depending on the level of mixing, we could see areas of New Jersey with 6 to 9 inches of snow. The highest totals are more likely in the very most northern counties. The majority of northern New Jersey can expect 3 to 6 inches of snow, with Monmouth and Ocean counties seeing 1 to 3 inches. South of there may see a trace to up to 1 inch of snow.
The earliest snowflakes arrive in the southwest portions of the state Saturday afternoon. Then we see a north and east trajectory of this storm with more widespread snow moving in during and after dinnertime. This system starts as snow and transitions into snow, freezing rain/mix and rain. This can be accompanied by the opportunity for glazing/icing.
As a reminder, even a few one-hundredths of an inch can be dangerous with glaze and ice. We could see spots up to 1/10 of an inch. Due to the mixing of snow and rain within this system, there will likely be a sharp and stark cut-off between areas that see better snow amounts versus lesser - likely occurring in the Middlesex/Monmouth area. Saturday night will be hazardous for travel. Avoid it if possible.
The storm wraps up by late Sunday morning and the rest of the day is decent.
We are tracking multiple opportunities for winter storms this week - including Tuesday into Wednesday, and something for later in the week. These will continue to be clearer the closer we get to them and once this weekend's storm moves through.
