New York State Police held a media briefing on their investigation into Trooper Thomas Mascia.
Trooper Mascia had claimed he was shot while on the Southern State Parkway last week. In an update this morning, Major Stephen Udice said, “We believe the way it was reported is not the way it happened.”
Authorities said they’re no longer looking for a Dodge Charger, which had been reported as the car involved, and they said there are no persons of interest they’re seeking.
State police said the investigation is “far from over.” Two investigations are simultaneously being conducted: A criminal one and an internal one.
Trooper Mascia, as News 12 reported, has been suspended without pay. Authorities said his duty weapon, shield and ID have been taken from him.
Authorities had asked for the public's help in the aftermath of the incident.
On Wednesday, when asked if any tips had come in, Major Stephen Udice said, "We have no tips at this point."
