For the second day in a row, Amtrak has experienced major disruptions, leading to massive delays Wednesday afternoon that lasted into the evening.
Trains operating between Philadelphia and Wilmington were stopped Wednesday afternoon due to downed overhead wires blocking the tracks.
Amtrak said crews were addressing the issue, by first opening a single-lane before restoring the full track.
Even after the fix, delays continued northbound and southbound Wednesday evening.
“Really unfortunate situation. Hopefully, they can get it together,” said Stephen, a traveler headed to Washington, D.C.
The delays come in addition to the track closure that took place between New York Penn Station and New Haven Union Station. Those tracks are now fully restored and travel has resumed.
Lots of people were stuck as trains got back on schedule. Some passengers told News 12 that they were wondering if they should take a different mode of transportation.
“There’s been perpetual delays and every 10-15 minutes it’s a text message basically saying it’s delayed again,” said traveler Julia Armet.
“I’m not very optimistic. I’m debating going home and driving to [Washington D.C.] but because it seems no one here really has any information. I think all the trains are kind of grounded right now,” said traveler Kim Kushmerick.
Some passengers are optimistic they’ll make it out Wednesday evening.
“There’s been a lot of resolutions available, so rebooking is an option. I’m being patient and hoping to be able to get back to Providence by the end of the evening,” said Armet.
One traveler was ready to board at a moment’s notice.
“I’m just going to jump on the next train that’s going to Philadelphia,” said traveler Steven.
