Spirit Airlines has announced that it will eliminate its crew base and staff in Atlantic City beginning Sept. 1. The crew and staff will be reassigned, but the airline will continue to fly out of Atlantic City.
Spirit officials announced Monday that the company will defer deliveries of new Airbus planes, and it plans to furlough about 260 pilots as it tries to boost its financial standing.
Spirit’s CEO said these aren’t steps they want to take, but believe are necessary to ensure a strong and profitable future. The budget airline believes by deferring on the plane deliveries from 2025 until 2030, it will boost its liquidity by about $340 million over the next two years.
