With congestion pricing set to bring a $9 toll to Manhattan’s Central Business District, South Bronx residents are concerned about its environmental impact.
Advocacy group South Bronx Unite says diverted traffic may increase air pollution in the area, making already high asthma rates worse.
Co-founder Mychal Johnson says Mott Haven’s asthma hospitalizations are 21 times higher than any other New York City neighborhood.
The MTA acknowledges these concerns and plans to address them by removing diesel refrigeration units in Hunts Point.
