Somerville Police are looking for the driver who struck and killed a volunteer firefighter outside a Somerville firehouse Friday night.
Police say George Kavanaugh, 75, was found in front of the Lincoln Hose Company on Friday night. He died at the hospital.
Kavanaugh, a firefighter for 50 years, was outside the fire house paying respects to another longtime firefighter who had recently died from a long battle with leukemia.
Fellow firefighters say in the last few years, Kavanaugh stayed an active firefighter doing behind-the-scenes work, and mentoring young recruits
Kavanaugh leaves behind a wife, children and grandchildren. His funeral is scheduled for Thursday morning
