An electrical fire in the basement of a Toms River brewery caused the basement of the building to fill with smoke.
Crews responded to Battle River Brewing, located at the intersection of Main and Washington streets, just after 9 a.m. Firefighters and emergency personnel were able to clear the building within an hour.
According to a spokesperson for JCP&L, one of the three main electrical lines serving the building failed. The power surge caused equipment in the basement to overheat, but the situation was contained quickly.
"Electrical lines overheated," workers at the scene told News 12, noting that there was no visible damage to the exterior of the historic building.
Repair crews remain on-site to restore the faulty line and inspect the basement equipment. No injuries were reported, and the brewery is expected to resume normal operations once repairs are finalized and the building is deemed safe.
