Severe thunderstorms on Wednesday evening, resulted in downed trees, power lines - and for some people, property damage around New Jersey. Central Jersey was hit hard including portions of Colonia and Edison.

Route 1 in Edison was shutdown between Woodbridge and Plainfield avenues after a large tree was blown over by high winds taking out nearby power lines. Some of those live wires were left hanging over the roadway.

Not far from Edison in Colonia, some homeowners found branches and downed trees in yards.

The Lemaldi family in Colonia had a large tree from their neighbor's yard fall into their backyard. It destroyed fencing and a shed.

"We had a generator we have a snow blower, a lawn mower, we have furniture. There’s quite a bit of stuff in there that’s probably just smashed," said Gail Lemaldi.
