Police in Bergen County released a sketch Wednesday of a male suspect they believe has posed as a contractor to break into three homes.
Two break-ins occurred in Pequannock on Oct. 18, one on West End Avenue and another on Osborne Terrace. A third happened in September at a home on Evelyn Place. Police say the man apparently poses as a legitimate contractor by wearing a business shirt and carrying a clip board.
Bill Heaney, who installs alarm systems, says one way for residents to tell if someone is telling the truth is to ask for identification. Heaney adds that even if residents have alarm systems, they should make sure all windows and doors are locked.
The suspect is described as a man in his late 30s, possibly Hispanic, who weighs between 180 and 200 pounds, with dark curly hair. Anyone with information should call police at (973) 835-1700.
