This Sunday marks a year since Denzel Bimpey was brutally killed while on his way home from college.

Denzel Bimpey, 18 was on his way home to the Bronx from SUNY Morrisville when he was killed.

The college student boarded a bus headed to Manhattan on Dec. 15, 2023.

When it arrived in Flatiron that night, police say a verbal argument broke out between two groups as they gathered their luggage. Investigators say Bimpey attempted to de-escalate the situation when he was stabbed three times.

Officials say he was left for dead, while his attacker ran off. For his family, it's been a year of grieving.

"That day, a piece of us all died," said Godslove Bimpey, Denzel's sister.

Denzel was a business major and had ambitions to help his family.

"If anybody was feeling down, he made them feel happy, he could change anyone's mood just like that. that's the biggest thing we miss about him," said Gideon Bimpey, Denzel's brother.

While a motive remains unclear, Gideon Bimpey says they believe it could have been a case of mistaken identity. The family says there has been no new leads in the case and their brothers' killer has yet to be held accountable.

"Think twice, think one more second before you do anything that you're going to regret for the rest of your life because you will have to pay for it someway some how," said Godslove Bimpey.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Dec. 14 at the Claremont Community Center.

The NYPD says there have been no new updates and the investigation remains ongoing.
