Sanitation workers went on strike in New Brunswick on Thursday with hopes to advocate for better contracts in the new year.
The workers showed up in front of City Hall for a peaceful protest. They say they are fed up with being overworked and underpaid.
"We have to show that we are serious about getting fair wages, a better union, and we need to be paid hazard pay because we deserve it. We work hard for it,” says Brittany Richardson, a truck driver for the Department of Public Works.
The contract negotiations have not been settled. The city says it is negotiating with the union and expects trash collection to continue.
