Police: Robberies near Rutgers University campus turn violent

One person was hit in the face and another person was thrown to the ground.

Police say they are looking into three robberies that took place Friday near Rutgers University in New Brunswick.
The robberies happened between 10 p.m. and midnight near Easton Avenue and Prosper Street. Two of the robberies turned violent.
Police say in all the cases, the victims were standing or walking on the street. One person was hit in the face and another person was thrown to the ground. No arrests have been made.
The Rutgers University Police Department sent a reminder on safety precautions:
  • Stay alert and attuned to people and circumstances around you.
  • Report suspicious activity or persons to the police immediately.
  • Do not leave valuables unattended or unsecured in your office, residence hall room or at your workspace.
  • Avoid isolated or dark areas.
The New Brunswick Police Department says anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, should contact the NBPD’s Detective Bureau at 732-745-5217.
