State police divers searching for a kayaker who went missing on Raritan Bay Saturday morning found his body in Keansburg.
Members of several police departments and the Coast Guard joined the search effort by land, air and water.
A fisherman called 911 at around 8 a.m. to report a man in distress. Officials say the man was not wearing a life jacket.
Police say they arrived to see a man in the water separated from his kayak. After a moment, he went underwater about a mile off of the coast, according to Deputy Chief John White of the Keansburg Police Department.
That was the last time the victim was seen until divers found his body after a two-hour search, police say.
Other kayakers say wind and rain conditions spelled danger for anyone in the bay.
"With the wind conditions, the wind will control your kayak instead of you controlling the kayak," said one kayaker, Tim Kauffman. "I definitely wouldn't go out in this weather, too risky. Too risky is not fun."
Police have not yet released the victim's identity. The investigation is ongoing.
