Rep. Josh Gottheimer has announced a taxpayer action plan to get New Jersey residents their tax refunds.
Many in New Jersey have been waiting months on end to get their 2020 tax refunds.
Gottheimer is also calling on the IRS to hire and train more agents to reduce a massive backlog of 6 million unprocessed tax returns.
Those delays have forced many New Jersey residents to turn to their representatives for help.
“I was quite understanding. With COVID, we were all overwhelmed - so it was understandable. But it didn't make the process any less frustrating,” says Nile Hagag, of Park Ridge. “When you only have a couple of snippets during the day, you're working full time, trying to get your groceries, having to deal with the IRS, it's really difficult."
Gottheimer says he also wants the agency to report their hiring progress to Congress by the end of March.
