The New York Red Bulls have the youngest players in Major League Soccer and they are off to one of their best starts in six years.
One of the team’s best players is 19-year-old midfielder Tyler Adams. He started with the team two years ago. He is one of the country’s top players.
"There won't be many teams that can stop us going forward. We have such a good attack,” Adams says.
Players on the team say that the younger players and a good coaching staff have enabled the team to play well.
"It means a lot when you have young guys in the past do well because it instills confidence in the coaching staff that there's more, younger players that can do the same thing,” says Adams.
Also on the team is 25-year-old Florian Valot, who was undrafted out of Rider University but now starts for the team and scores often.
"It's been a long process but a real interesting one. I think I was really patient,” he says.
The team has done a lot to prepare for this season. They traded their captain in the offseason and also signed a 23-year-old star player from Argentina. Players from the team’s lower-level soccer program were also promoted to the team.
The average age of the players on the team is 24 years old.
The Red Bulls take on their rival, New York City Football Club, next week.
