A father and son pleaded not guilty on Thursday in connection to a fatal fire at a Spring Valley adult nursing home.
Nathaniel and Aaron Sommer are accused of starting a fire at Evergreen Court Assisted Living back in March that killed a resident and firefighter Jared Lloyd as he rescued people trapped inside.
As the rabbis entered their not guilty pleas at County Court, about a dozen first responders were in the court watching along with Jared Lloyd's father and aunt.
Nathaniel and Aaron Sommer had been kosherizing the kitchen for Passover, and court documents accuse them of turning off fire alarms and leaving burning materials unattended - subsequently sparking the fire that killed Lloyd and a resident.
Both men were indicted on several felony charges, including manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, arson and assault.
The men will have a preliminary hearing on Nov. 9.
