Protesters demanded answers Saturday in the death of 23-year-old Steven Barrier, who died in police custody in Stamford.

More than 100 people traveled from Scalzi Park and to the Stamford Police Department to demand justice.

Protesters say they're asking for police reform and redistribution of police funding.

 

Video from Oct. 23, Barrier's 23rd birthday, shows that police chased him down after a call from his sister alleging domestic violence.

Footage apparently shows Barrier saying he's too tired to walk, and has to be carried to the police car.

When officers got back to the station, they say they found Barrier unresponsive. The family asks why he wasn't taken to the hospital sooner.

The chief state attorney says Barrier died from heart failure, and that after an investigation, there was no evidence of any force used on Barrier. They say his death was the result of coronary artery disease.

The case is closed, but protesters and Barrier's mother, Valerie Jaddo, say they hope to change that.
