A police officer rescued a child who fell from a second-floor window during a house fire Monday in Asbury Park.

Officials say fire crews and police were dispatched to the residence on Prospect Avenue just before 9:30 a.m.

As occupants were being removed from the building, the child fell from the window and into the arms of the officer.

Authorities say the fire was extinguished, and the child was hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the house fire was not immediately clear.
