A 15-year-old is facing multiple charges connected to an attempted carjacking that occurred Wednesday morning in Bernards Township.
The Somerset County Prosecutor says a 911 call reported
the incident at a gas station on Valley Road around 11:30 a.m.
Police were told at the scene that the suspect assaulted a man who was putting air in his tires and then attempted to steal his vehicle.
The victim and another individual attempted to stop the teen and regain control of the vehicle.
However, the suspect knocked them down by reversing and then ran over the driver while accelerating forward.
The prosecutor says the victim was caught underneath. Gas station attendants jacked up the vehicle in order to remove him.
The man was taken to a hospital and underwent emergency surgery for serious injuries.
Police say the teen was arrested following an investigation. They remain in the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center pending a hearing.
